"Neolithic" Double-Strand Necklace
This double-strand necklace is named "Neolithic," combining several guardian pendants, protectors of the lineage, against a backdrop of vintage amber in various shades (from light to dark and vice versa) with contrasting nephrite. The Berehynia figures, adorned with symbols of a sown field, are among the oldest female amulets, while amber and nephrite have long been used to create jewelry—evoking these very associations in this necklace.
Materials:
Amber, nephrite, brass pendants, jewelry alloy.
Amber is a unique natural material that formed millions of years ago from fossilized conifer resin. Its warm hues range from honey to rich cognac, and its lightness and organic origin make it particularly comfortable to wear. Throughout various eras, amber has been valued for its beauty and rarity, playing an important role in European culture and jewelry art.
Nephrite, also known as jade, is a mineral that, despite its relative softness (5.5-6.5 on the Mohs scale), is exceptionally tough and durable. This is likely why it's one of the oldest minerals used to create jewelry and ritual objects. It was highly valued in various cultures worldwide, particularly in China, where it was considered the "stone of emperors" and symbolized wisdom, harmony, and spiritual strength. The main deposits of nephrite are found in Asia and the Caucasus, from where it likely reached Kyivan Rus' through trade routes. Many peoples used nephrite to create amulets, believing it brought longevity and tranquility to its owner.
Berehynia is one of the oldest female amulets, embodying protection, fertility, and a connection to ancestors. The "sown field" symbol on the pendant is a sacred sign reflecting the idea of abundance and life-giving energy, passed down through generations in traditional Ukrainian ornamentation.
