This two-strand necklace from the "Podillia" collection is dedicated to one of the great Podillia caves—Verteba. The Verteba cave is unique because it was inhabited and used for cult rituals since ancient times. Archaeological finds indicate three cultural layers of the Eneolithic Trypillian-Cucuteni culture.
The initial name for this necklace was "Foundation of Life," as the beads it consists of can be attributed to the core elements: jasper as earth, kyanite representing air, pearls as water, and garnet as fire. All are united by the "Trypillian Circle" pendant, symbolizing the unity of the elements and the beginning of life. However, we later expanded the context. The Verteba cave was a sacred site for the Trypillians, a place where they lived and conducted their rituals for many years. Moreover, the patterns and textures of the jasper echo the natural drawings on the cave walls. Thus, a single necklace combines different stories of the past and the contemporary, incredible landscapes of Podillia.
Materials: serpentine jasper, leopard jasper, kyanite, pearls, brass pendants.
Jasper is an opaque variety of chalcedony, whose color is due to inclusions of iron oxide and manganese. Natural patterns and stripes add special beauty to the beads. Thanks to its high hardness (6.5–7 on the Mohs scale), it is durable and practical for use in jewelry. The names "serpentine" and "leopard" come from the patterns on the surface of the minerals.
Kyanite is a mineral whose name comes from the Greek word kyanos, meaning "blue." Kyanite has a unique property known as hardness anisotropy. Its hardness on the Mohs scale differs significantly depending on the direction: it is 4.5–5.5 along the crystal and 6.5–7 across it, making it difficult to process.
Pearls are precious stones of animal origin that do not require faceting or polishing. They are born with a perfect shape and soft luster, ready for use in jewelry. The natural asymmetrical shape means that every bead in the piece will be unique and one-of-a-kind.
The pendants "Trypilly Circle" and "Trypilly Women" are made of brass.
The length of the necklace is 35-38 cm, the braids are 25 cm. This allows you to adjust the length and height of the necklace when used with other jewelry.
