We've modernized the look of a traditional zgarda by incorporating labradorite as its foundation. The ribbon ties are a reference to Ukrainian wreaths (vinochek) with their many flowing ribbons at the back. The central elements are three brass Hutsul crosses—swargas—copies of ancient ones. These crosses are unique, as they resemble solar symbols found across many ethnic groups since the Neolithic era.
These "crosses" are believed to be pre-Christian symbols of the sun's movement. In ancient times, people worshipped the sun as a life-giving force. It was vital to mark the sun's movement as the end of important stages and the beginning of new, equally significant ones. These events included: the start of agricultural work, harvest, and storage. The beginning, middle, and end of the year. At these moments, people paused and marked these points of the sun's movement with significant holidays, echoes of which we still feel today: Koliada, Christmas, Malanka and Vasyl, Easter, Green Holidays (Pentecost), Spas (Savior's Day), Pokrova, and so on.
Materials: Labradorite, brass pendants, jewelry alloy.
Labradorite is a mineral from the feldspar group; its main mineral composition includes plagioclase (70-98%), pyroxene (1-35%), olivine (1-15%), and other minerals in smaller quantities. A fascinating feature of this mineral is the phenomenon of iridescence—a bright shimmering and play of colors (primarily blue, sky blue, green, golden, and sometimes purple) that arises from the scattering of light on microscopic inclusions in its structure.
A zgarda is a traditional Hutsul ornament consisting of brass crosses strung on solid braided wire, with elements called "perelizhky" or "peremizhky." The zgarda was fastened with a massive ornamented clasp, a "chepraha." It served not only as an adornment but also as a symbol of community belonging and spiritual protection.
The length of the necklace is 40 cm, the ribbon ties are 30 cm. This allows you to adjust the length and height of the necklace when used with other jewelry.
