This necklace combines baroque pearls, red Venetian beads, and five hand-cast brass crosses crafted by a Ukrainian artisan. The name “Kalyna Bloom” symbolizes the union of white and red — colors that reflect both the flower and the ripe cluster of viburnum, one of the most important symbols of Ukraine.

The zgarda is a traditional Hutsul necklace that originally consisted entirely of metal: brass crosses were strung on a solid twisted wire chain with decorative spacers called “perelizhky,” and closed with a large clasp known as a “chepraga.” It served as both a protective amulet and a sign of communal identity.

Later, glass beads — known as patsyorky — were added to zgardas. Red Venetian beads made their way to the Carpathians from the island of Murano through trade. Thanks to the export of timber from the Hutsul region, which was vital for Venice’s foundation piles, locals gained access to exquisite Murano glasswork, created with secret techniques. These beads were luxurious and expensive and gradually became part of festive Ukrainian attire.

The combination of pearls, red Venetian glass, and five crosses forms a rich visual and symbolic composition. This piece is not just jewelry — it's a reflection of tradition, heritage, and feminine strength.
