This zgarda necklace combines deep blue "Cairo Night" aventurine, exquisite Venetian beads, and five brass Hutsul crosses, recreated by Ukrainian craftsmen based on ancient designs. The refined blend of dark gemstones and golden metal accents makes this piece especially striking.
"Cairo Night" Aventurine is not a natural mineral but a type of glass crafted using a unique technique developed in the 17th century on the Venetian island of Murano. Its deep blue hue with golden flecks resembles a starry desert sky, which inspired its poetic name. With its rich color and shimmering texture, this material remains a beloved choice in jewelry craftsmanship.
Zgarda is a traditional Hutsul adornment consisting of brass crosses strung on a solid braided wire, with elements known as "perelizhky" or "peremizhky." It was fastened with a large ornamented clasp called a "chepraga." These necklaces served not only as decorative pieces but also as powerful amulets, passed down through generations. The Venetian beads in this piece also hold a fascinating history. Crafted in Murano since the 14th century, they reached the Carpathians through trade routes and became an essential part of folk attire.
Necklace length – 42 cm, with an extension chain featuring the signature SHTERNO logo, allowing for adjustable fit.
