Chrysoprase is a variety of chalcedony, a mineral from the quartz family. Its unique apple-green or emerald color is due to traces of nickel in its composition. This translucent stone is characterized by high hardness (7 on the Mohs scale), which makes it durable and long-lasting. It may lose its color when exposed to direct sunlight.
